April is SAFE DIGGING MONTH

The Common Ground Alliance and its stakeholders have designated April 2010 as National Safe Digging Month. This month is dedicated to increasing awareness of safe digging practices across the country and to celebrate the three-year anniversary of 811, the national call-before-you-dig number.

Throughout the busy digging month of April, CGA and its members are encouraging homeowners and contractors to call 811 before they dig to prevent injuries, property damage and inconvenient outages.

Did you know?
  • More than 200,000 underground utility lines are struck each year in the U.S.?
  • 37% of all U.S. digging damages result from not calling before digging.
  • Utilities are buried only a few inches underground, making them easy to strike even during shallow digging projects.
  • Here are some ways you can participate:
  • Join us in National Safe Digging Month by calling 811 before beginning any outdoor digging project, large or small.
  • If a neighbor is planning a digging project, remind them to call 811 before they break ground.
  • If you have a web site, personal blog or or e-newsletter, you can post our "We Support Safe Digging Month" button on your profile to show your support for safe digging.
  • Encourage your organization or company to sign a "Safe Digging Month Proclamation."

Tigard Reservoir Project Selected as finalist for DJC Top Projects 2010

Emery & Sons Construction is pleased to announce that the Tigard 3.0 MG Reservoir # 2 has been named as a finalist in the Daily Journal of Commerce’s Top Projects 2010 !

From djcoregon.com...

Despite the region being mired in a recession last year, general contractors, architecture and engineering firms, and developers still managed to compile an impressive array of projects for consideration in the Daily Journal of Commerce’s 2010 Top Projects competition.

This year’s preliminary judging resulted in 97 projects being selected to move on in the competition as finalists. Those finalists will be judged by a panel of professionals from the local built-environment community. Judging criteria include scope of work, challenges and obstacles, budget and schedule considerations, and quality.

Category winners and an overall winner, as well as Most Valuable Subcontractor awards, will be announced at the Top Projects awards reception. The event will be held May 20, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

Tickets for the reception are $45 if purchased by May 14 and $60 after that date. Registration is required and is available online at www.djcOregon.com/events.

For more information about the awards event, contact Trish Sternthal at trish.sternthal@djcOregon.com.
